Mays House - Green

Why Mays?

Mays House’s ethos is based around the young people being superheroes. The House mascot is the Hulk and each form has their own superhero mascot. A Superhero has many personality traits and values that our young people can adopt to help them achieve their best as a member of Mays House and their time at Bourne Academy. Each member of Green House is encouraged to adopt the following values, be supportive & help others, always strive for the best, have courage to face fears, motivated with a sense of responsibility, be committed, show integrity and be honest.

House Updates

The House Celebration Evening takes place in July and is an end of year awards ceremony, highlighting the efforts and achievements of the young people at Bourne Academy within the House System.

Students are nominated for each award by their form tutor and/or Head of House. Each nominated student will receive a letter of invitation prior to the evening. Each student is invited to bring along their family members.

The awards that students can be nominated for include:

• Outstanding Contribution to Form Time

• Most Outstanding Reader

• Most Words Read

• Contribution to the School Community

• Contribution within the Arts

• Contribution to Sport

• Contribution to Charity/Fund Raising

• Outstanding Contribution to the House

There is an award for each of the above categories per house, each student receiving a personalised certificate. The Heads of House will then decide which students from all the nominated reward winners that will receive trophies for each of the awards as an overall House winner. The evening is a fantastic occasion, offering a very relaxed and welcoming environment that the Heads of House will share personal accounts of what the young people have achieved and why they have been nominated.

Who is our National Charity?

The ‘C’ word is something that has had impact on many of the staff and young people throughout our school community. Mays House want to have an impact, be it a small one, on helping beating Cancer for good! So our National Charity is Cancer Research UK

Who is our Local Charity?

CASY – Counselling and Support for Young People. It is vital for everyone to have someone to talk to, no matter how little or big the problem may seem. Supporting a local charity like CASY will help our young people at Bourne Academy have that confidential outlet to offer support.
