Remembering those who suffered and were lost in the Holocaust

“For a better future” was the theme in our PSHE lessons, where our Years 9, 10 and 11 students learnt about the Holocaust and remembered those that suffered and the lives that were lost.

This year, Holocaust Memorial Day marked the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, which was the largest Nazi concentration camp complex, and the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia. However, due to events in Israel and Gaza, there is still anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim hatred where many UK communities are feeling vulnerable due to hostility.

Students learnt about the history of the Holocaust and heard of experiences from survivors to then be able to discuss and understand sensitive topics such as misleading information, hate crime, refuges and extremism. We were really impressed with our student’s knowledge, how they approached these topics with maturity and that they want to be part of creating a better future.
