Bourne Academy win award for keeping our students active

The power of physical activity and sport in school has given opportunities for our students to develop as a participant, leader, official or volunteer as well as being enjoyable and improving well-being.

Sport at Bourne Academy continues to go from strength to strength. We have a large uptake of students who participate in a wide range of sporting activities across the school which reinforces the importance we place on being active. The first-class sports facilities, coupled with a strong curriculum enables students of all sporting backgrounds to excel and be recognised accordingly.

We are therefore proud to announce that Bourne Academy has achieved the School Games Bronze Mark Award for the 2021/22 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise school’s engagement (provision and uptake) in the School Games against a national benchmark and to celebrate keeping young people active.

As a school, we are extremely proud of the students at Bourne Academy for their dedication to all aspects of physical activity and sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials. We have used the School Games to engage with our students who haven’t previously been active or represented our school and ensure that all students have opportunities try out new activities in the community too.

Mr Matt Sammy, Head of School said “I am incredibly proud of the hard work, dedication, and commitment from our sports staff and students to collectively achieve this National Award. This award underpins the strength of sport across Bourne Academy, both within the curriculum and through the extensive wider curriculum offer. Providing opportunities for students of all abilities to take part in the Sports Leaders programme is an excellent way for our young people to gain invaluable skills for the future as they continue to develop their leadership abilities across a range of disciplines. I would like to offer my congratulations to everyone who made it possible for Bourne Academy to receive this special award.”
