Year 8 and Year 9 are both winners in SLAT Netball Tournaments
Our Year 8 and Year 9 netball teams had plenty to live up to after the Year 10 and Year 11 netball teams had already won their SLAT sports tournaments for Bourne Academy earlier in the year.
The SLAT tournaments are where each Year compete against other schools in the Trust in mini friendly tournaments, which is held at Spalding Academy as this is a central location for all four schools.
First up, were the Year 9 netball team (pictured above) who convincingly won their league by winning all three games and achieving maximum points.
Their first game was very close as won 5-4 against Giles Academy after some fantastic shooting from Keeley Garner. Against Spalding Academy, the defence had to work hard to keep the ball out of the opposition D, and Eleanor Eales and Alicia Goodson worked well together to intercept gain rebounds to help the attackers with a 7-5 win. The team then controlled the final game against Cowley Academy with great centre court play to achieve a 6-1 victory.
Our Year 8 netball team (pictured above) were just as convincing and also won all three games in their tournament.
They won their first game 9-4 against Giles Academy with excellent defending from Zara Wright and Emily Norbury who intercepted the ball to stop the opposition from attacking the circle. Strong centre court play from Indigo Cox, Fleur Nelson and Poppy Green was key to us winning 9-4 against Spalding Academy. The third game was against Cowley Academy had some great inceptions from Zara Wright and Sophie Smalova who combined well with Poppy Green and Zara Kelby to make the final score 6-1.
Well done to all the girls, but special mentions to Fleur Nelson who was the Year 8 player of the tournament and Keeley Garner who was the Year 9 player of the tournament.
