Meet some of the latest ITT trainees who are 'Getting into Teaching'

If you are interested in getting into teaching, South Lincolnshire Academies Trust are now one of the Lead Partners for the Lincolnshire ITT and can talk to you about starting your teaching journey with us.
You could train either at the schools in our highly successful Trust or at a variety of other secondary schools in the Lincolnshire, Rutland and Peterborough areas.
We have a variety of trainees on the programme ranging from those who have joined straight from university to those who have changed career to work in education. As long as you have the required qualifications (such as a level 6 degree) you can start in September 2026.

Isabel Sutton joined the Initial Teacher Training (ITT) after completing her BSc in Biology at the University of Lincoln, and is currently working as a Trainee Science Teacher at Spalding Academy. Before making the decision if this was the best route for her, she spoke to various teachers and school leaders with 20+ years’ experience in education and they all recommended the SCITT as it best prepares you for becoming a teacher. She has found the programme really enjoyable as already seen the benefits of what she has learnt by using effective strategies for behaviour management and lesson planning.

William Johnson is one of the trainees on the ITT programme who is based in a local secondary school not part of the Trust. As a former student at Spalding Grammar School, he has maintained a positive relationship with the school by volunteering in their summer sports whilst studying Sport & Exercise Science at university. It was actually the PE department at Spalding Grammar School who recommended studying the ITT with South Lincolnshire Academies Trust and they have been really supportive in William’s personal development. To gain even more experience in other secondary schools, he will undertake a six-week placement in another school in Lincolnshire. All trainees on the programme are also assigned mentors at different schools in Lincolnshire and William has a mentor at Priory Ruskin Academy in Grantham. Having the opportunity to visit other schools and observe different lessons will further enhance his teaching experience.

Farina Zaka originally studied her Business degree overseas and then gained a MSc in Management at the University of Hertfordshire. Whilst working in education she has had many roles in primary and secondary schools from being Teaching Assistant, Cover Supervisor and more recently as a Maths Instructor. It was when doing this she set her sights on becoming a Maths Teacher at Bourne Academy. With a strong business knowledge, she had excellent mathematical skills and when she was a Cover Teacher she realised she knew the syllabus so already well prepared. As there is a shortage of Maths Teachers so she knew that this would prove to be a good decision to focus on this in-demand curriculum subject.
Spalding Academy will be hosting a ‘Get Into Teaching’ event on Wednesday 5th November 2025 from 5.30pm to 7.00pm, where you can discover how you can gain a recognised teaching qualification with our one-year school centred Initial Teacher Training.
