Reading Evening helps get parents involved in students' learning

To help inform the parents of Year 7 students about all aspects of the Reading Agenda at our school, and what they can do to support their child at home, we have recently held ‘Reading Evenings’ in all schools across the Trust.

This event was first held at Bourne Academy last year and due to this success, we have now held at all schools and it will become a regular event each year.

Parents were able to attend three short presentations in a carousel format, which included:

  • An overall induction to the Reading Agenda
  • Bedrock Vocabulary
  • Accelerated Reader Programme

Parents were also able to see our Library that is a hub for so many of activities that are integrated into students everyday learning.

The engaging format meant that parents were able to gain understanding about all aspects of the agenda and went home with a clear idea of how best to support their child.

We were thrilled to see so many parents who want to be involved their child’s learning and keen to discover how “we are a reading school”. Everyone was enthusiastic about the information they were given and parents had the opportunity to ask any questions they had.
