Poetry competition winners are empowered to succeed

Bourne Academy students continue to impress with their passion for creativity as five talented members of the school community celebrated their success in the latest Young Writers Poetry Competition.

The theme of the national competition was Empowered – Future Voices, which was promoted as an opportunity for young people to express themselves through poetry.

Lucy Beaton, Elana Cox, Jake Hellawell, Zara Thiara-Mahmood and Jadwiga Witczak all certainly rose to the occasion with inspiring and thought-provoking poems about choice, independence, positivity and courage.

Our five budding writers will see their amazing work published in the Young Writers’ Empowered Anthology, which will be delivered to them in March 2022.

Speaking about the standard of entries, Mrs Copeland who teaches English at Bourne Academy said “The students’ poems were authentic and fascinating. It was wonderful to read them and to hear such confident and vivid emotions being expressed.”
