Galileo House are the top Accelerated Readers this term
One of the fantastic literacy initiatives we have to encourage students to engage with reading is our Accelerated Reader programme. This is where our Year 7 and 8 students have time during their afternoon registration to read their chosen books, which can then be carried on as home learning.
When a student reads a book, they take an online quiz via the Accelerated Reader portal and get immediate feedback. By responding to regular feedback our students are then motivated to make progress with their reading skills. As a school, we can then monitor students progress to guide their future learning.
The initiative also forms part of our many Inter-House competitions to encourage students to develop their literacy and the reward them for their efforts and enthusiasm with their reading.
Congratulations to Galileo House who were awarded the trophy for being the top House in the Accelerated Reader programme for Terms 1 and 2. Mrs Vignolo, Head of Galileo House and Ms Overland, Teacher of O3 form collected the trophy during an end of term House assembly.
We also held a prize draw for all the students who either read and quizzed at least five books or achieved a 100% score on at least two reading quizzes this term. Well done to everyone who was entered into the draw and the group of winners, which included Lloyd Ashton, Egle Genyte, Georgina Ginster, Alicia Goodson, Tobias Langton, Lucy Uglow and Chloe Walton.
