Sixth formers visit university for media and journalism opportunities
There are so many great opportunities for higher education and employment in the local area that it is not always necessary to move away. In fact, by making industry contacts locally can give you a head-start when it comes to starting work.
This is one of the reasons why our BTEC Creative Digital Media Production students in Year 12 took a trip to University Centre Peterborough (UCP) and explored the world of media and journalism on their doorstep.
In Peterborough city centre, UCP has a state-of-the-art media and journalism centre packed full of specialist equipment and studios with everything needed for TV, radio and online.
Our students were able to participate in three workshops organised by the university staff which consisted of a TV studio workshop, recording a podcast and also a creative writing workshop.
In the TV studio workshop, students had an opportunity to present a show, operate cameras and even produce the show in the studio! The Sixth Formers then had the chance to come up with their own podcast which they would then record using the amazing sound recording facilities. Finally, they had a creative writing workshop where they were challenged to create a dialogue that followed the alphabet.
As well as the practical activities, they also had the opportunity visited the main campus for University Centre Peterborough to hear from undergraduate students who shared their experiences on the degrees that offer work placements.
Thank you to University Centre Peterborough for organising the trip and their excellent hospitality so our Sixth Formers could see the fantastic opportunities available locally. These trips are really important as we strive to help our students in their next steps of their education.
