The jazz-tastic sounds of New Orleans are a hit with music students
Our Year 10/11 and Sixth Form music students had a jazz-tastic music performance to get a better understanding of what makes the sound of New Orleans so popular around the world.
Mr Brindley, Head of Music at Bourne Academy called in a few favours from fellow professional musicians Michael Crawford and John Brindley (as music talent clearly runs in the family) to arrange an after-school live gig in the drama studio where everyone had a front row seat.
Michael Crawford is a well-known local jazz musician who has an impressive online following as he shares music tutorials with over 1 million views on YouTube alone and John Brindley is a professional bass player with over 10 years of experience on cruises and in the West End.
With this experience, no rehearsals or warm-ups were required as the musical trio played a 90-minute performance with a series of jazz pieces ranging from ‘Someday My Prince with Come’ to ‘My Funny Valentine’. They were also able to show some of the true characteristics of jazz with improvisation as their awareness of each other perfectly complimented this genre of music.
This was then followed by an opportunity for students to ask questions about jazz music and careers in the music industry as they were interested in how you can get the opportunity to be a musician and travel.
