Mathematical problem-solving skills are put to the challenge
A group of our exceptional maths students in Year 8 have been participating in a lunchtime club for the past two months to prepare for the UK Maths Trust (UKMT) Junior Mathematical Challenge.
The challenge is a national competition designed to develop students’ problem-solving skills as it encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency to make students think.
Our students completed the 60-minute challenge on 1st May 2025 under test conditions and it comprised of 25 incredibly tough questions with no calculators or measuring instruments allowed.
Below are just some of the questions that our students had to solve.
A massive well done to Frankie Butters, Maja Chadkevic, Isaac Cottam, Jacob Edis, Ronnie Fuller, Gabi Jezo, Isaac Mclean, Edie Murdoch, Jacob Mussas-Beaumont, Jeff Olivares-Alvarez, Tim Pace, Jenson Smith, Max Taylor, Alice Thompson, Esme Walker and Joshua Wigglesworth for working so hard over the last two months and showing their enthusiasm for maths.
We are incredibly proud of the results our students achieved as they were awarded with Silver and Bronze certificates.
Thank you to Mr Flowers and Mr Graham in the Maths department for working with our students to prepare them for the challenge and stretch their thinking.
