Bringing Shakespeare’s Macbeth to life for GCSE English students

Bringing Shakespeare's Macbeth to life for GCSE English students

To bring Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy of Macbeth to life, we arranged for the whole of Year 10 to watch a live performance on the school stage with a professional production of Macbeth from Quantum Theatre.

The theatre company visited both Bourne Academy and Cowley Academy this week, and these mesmerising performances have certainly helped our Year 10 students appreciate this dark tale of vaulting ambition and the toll it takes.

Students have been studying this classic book for the first year of the GCSE English Literature curriculum and will soon be sitting their first mock examination.

As part of the English Literature course the students are analysing various aspects of Shakespeare’s tragedy; covering the plot and character development of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, Witches and Macduff while also exploring key themes like ambition, power, the supernatural, and appearance vs reality.

Thank you to Mrs James, Head of English for arranging this enrichment opportunity as it will be hugely beneficial for our students to appreciate and write about this classic text.
