Accelerated Reader
Reading is a cornerstone of success across the curriculum, and we are committed to helping every student develop the confidence, fluency and enjoyment needed to become a lifelong reader. To support this, students in Years 7, 8 and 9 participate in the Accelerated Reader programme.
Students in Years 7 and 8 take part in Accelerated Reader during tutor time, while Year 9 students engage with the programme through dedicated reading opportunities within the English curriculum. All students receive individual login details, allowing them to track their reading progress, monitor targets and access quizzes independently.
Following an initial reading assessment, students are given a personalised reading range to ensure they select books that are appropriately challenging and support continued progress. As students read, they complete online quizzes which assess comprehension and understanding of the texts. The programme provides immediate feedback and enables students and staff to monitor reading development throughout the year.
Students are encouraged to read widely and regularly, both in school and at home. Quizzes can be taken on a vast range of books, including those borrowed from the school library, purchased independently or accessed through online platforms. This helps to foster independent reading habits while encouraging students to explore different genres, authors and topics.
