Boccia Festival builds teamwork and sporting skills

Boccia Festival builds communication, teamwork and sporting skills

A group of students from Years 7 and 8 got the fantastic opportunity to represent Bourne Academy as they took part in the annual Boccia Festival designed to celebrate teamwork, skill-building, and inclusive sport.

Boccia is a precision ball game similar to bowls that is played indoors and uses soft leather balls. The festival organised by Lincolnshire School Games, allows students of all abilities to compete together, making it a fantastic game for everyone to get involved, try something new, and support one another.

Throughout the festival, our students embraced each game with enthusiasm. They developed new techniques, learned how to adapt their play, and discovered just how important communication and teamwork are in a sport that relies on strategy and cooperation.

Whether they were planning their next move or encouraging their teammates, their commitment to working together was clear. What stood out most was the maturity and sportsmanship shown by every participant.

Mr Dennis, Teacher of PE said “The festival was not only a chance to compete but also an opportunity to celebrate the values of inclusion, teamwork, and personal growth that makes this fun sport so powerful. Our students embodied all of these, and the school community couldn’t be prouder of their achievements. It was a brilliant day for everyone involved, and a fantastic showcase of what Bourne Academy students can accomplish when they work together.”
