Sixth Form chef extraordinaires with French gastronomy

It’s not all textbooks and being in the classroom when it comes for studying A-level French as we like to take students out of their comfort zone and challenge them in new ways to test their language skills.

Having studied French regional gastronomy and to mark the end of a long year of hard work, our Year 12 French students transformed into chef extraordinaires to cook a three-course meal for the staff and use their language skills whilst cooking.

Rosie Heal prepared ‘Soupe à l’oignon’ a typical Parisian starter. This was followed by a main meal from Aidan Adcock and Sophie Bell, which was ‘Poulet basquaise’ a classic chicken tomatoey dish from the South West of France accompanied with ‘Salade aux lardons’. ‘Gratin Dauphinois’ from South Eastern France was another fantastic side dish created by Sam Morris. Isobel Staite mastered the art of making ‘Eclairs au chocolat’ for dessert.

The students served up a mouth-watering French feast for staff from the Modern Foreign Languages and Sixth Form Departments, which was “absolument délicieux”!

The day was a perfect blend of language, culture, teamwork and a whole lot of fun. It was a wonderful and tasty way to end the year together.

Bon appétit et bonnes vacances!
