Kin-Ball Festival introduces a new team sport to get active
A group of Year 7 students had a fantastic time learning a new team sport, getting active and making new friends as they took part in a Kin-Ball Festival, which was held at University Academy Long Sutton.
The event, which was organised by Lincolnshire School Games provided an exciting and engaging experience as well as a great opportunity to help these students with their transition to secondary school.
Kin-Ball is a relatively new sport, which originated from Canada where three teams of four players compete against each other at the same time to try and keep a giant ball (measuring 1.2 metres) off the floor! The objective of the game is to score the most amount of points by not letting the ball touch the ground. It is a great game to get students active, work as a team and most of all having fun!
The event allowed our students to develop key skills in communication, teamwork, and strategic play while enjoying a high-energy sporting environment against teams from other schools. Once they learnt the rules, they were able to use tactics and quick-thinking to outmanoeuvre their opponents.
Mr Dennis, Teacher of PE said “Our Year 7s embraced this festival brilliantly. They encouraged one another, shared ideas, and quickly learned how essential teamwork is when trying to keep such a huge ball in play. As the games progressed, students from different schools mixed, collaborated, and supported each other, creating a positive and friendly atmosphere. The students demonstrated their maturity and sportsmanship plus their willingness to communicate, help others, and step outside their comfort zone. They were all excellent ambassadors for the school.”
