Mixed Touch Rugby Festival develops skills, teamwork and communication
To encourage both boys and girls to participate in different sports, a team of our Year 7 students took part in a T1 Mixed Touch Rugby Festival.
There are many benefits of playing rugby as it builds confidence, self-esteem and resilience, improves communication skills and teamwork, plus there is a playing position for everyone!
The festival kicked off with coaching sessions led by a group of Sports Leaders who guided our students through the fundamentals of touch rugby as this version of the sport requires minimal physical contact, so focuses on speed, agility and control.
Mr Dennis, Teacher of PE said “For many of our Year 7s, this was their first experience of the sport, but you wouldn’t have known it from the way they threw themselves into the action with enthusiasm and determination.”
The students then took part in a mini-tournament alongside participating teams from local other schools. The matches were fast-paced, fun, and full of teamwork, with our students showcasing their developing rugby skills as well as outstanding behaviour and sportsmanship throughout the day.
It was a brilliant opportunity for our students to enjoy the spirit of competition in a supportive environment and hopefully inspire them to eventually follow in the footsteps of rugby legends like Martin Johnson or Zoe Aldcroft.
