Bourne students compete at the national Cross-Country Finals

Ted Ash and Daisy Hay represented Bourne Academy and all of the schools in Lincolnshire at the English School’s Cross-Country Championships, which took place at Hop Farm in Kent on Saturday 19th March 2022. This is a prestigious event in the school sporting calendar as it was the 61st boys and the 53rd girls national cross-country finals.

The competition featured the very best cross-country runners from all over the country and Ted and Daisy were part of the Lincolnshire teams after being selected from the county trials earlier this year.

It was a glorious weekend as the sun was shining, making it a great day for the spectators, but not great for the runners as the flat course proved to be extremely fast and the ground was incredibly undulated.

Daisy was first up in the very first race of the day, which was 3,875 metres and her injured knee did not stop her from running her best as she came 287th with a time of 16.58 minutes. Ted Ash had to wait until the fourth race of the day, which was a distance of 5,750 metres. This is Ted’s second time at nationals and he ran phenomenally well, coming in at position 79th and running the race in 21.05 minutes.

Ms Ged Coles, SLAT Director of Sport and Physical Education said “A huge congratulations to both runners as this was an outstanding achievement to be selected for the English school’s competition. The school and especially the PE department, are incredibly proud of them both.”
