Practical lesson helps GCSE English students revise exam texts
On non-uniform day last week, our Year 11 students completed a revision unit on the set texts for their GCSE English examinations by taking part in an interactive revision activity.
The activity involved students working in small groups to create a ‘stall’ of key information and quotes from their literature texts which other students could then ‘shop’ for.
The groups were able to be creative in the designs of their stalls and they found interesting and exciting ways to present the information to their peers such as spider diagrams, interactive games and table top notes.
The lesson culminated in an ‘information relay’ with the students competing to recall the most knowledge from their literature texts in a dynamic and engaging way.
This practical way of learning is highly promoted through our ‘Communications’ agenda within the school.
The Year 11 student said “I love the way we worked in this lesson. I was engaged throughout and enjoyed working with my group to find the information we needed for our stall. To then have the freedom to present it in a format we chose made sure that we were further invested in our learning. The relay at the end was really good fun and I certainly went home remembering key quotes, analysis and information that I didn’t know before.”
