Remembrance observed at school and in the local community
On Remembrance Sunday, our Year 11 Head Students and Year 13 Trust Executive Head Students along with Miss Belcher and Mrs Barber represented Bourne Academy by taking part in the Bourne Town Parade and placing a poppy wreath at the memorial service.
Miss Belcher, who will be the Head of School at Bourne Academy from January 2026 said “The parade and service were deeply poignant. The Head Students were excellent representatives for Bourne Academy as they laid a poppy wreath with great respect and dignity, alongside representatives from local Defence and Emergency Services.”
Leading up to Remembrance Day, students and staff were involved in a variety of ways from selling poppies in aid of the Royal British Legion to incorporating Remembrance into subject lessons. As part of the House system, students created poppies which was then made into large poppy displays.
On Remembrance Day on 11th November at 11am, the whole school stopped during breaktime for a one-minute silence to mark the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the month, which was impeccably observed.
Each year, we also give students that are part of a RAF, Army or Police Cadets, St John Ambulance or Scouts and Guides the opportunity to wear their uniform throughout the school day, and we even a student in uniform from the Peterborough Highland Pipe Band.
