Runners represent Lincolnshire at Cross Country Anglian Championships

It has been another fantastic cross-country season for Bourne Academy as Finlay Smith in Year 10 and Emmylou Preston in Year 7 represented Lincolnshire in the Anglian Championships last weekend, where they competed alongside the best athletes in Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire and Suffolk.

Over the last few terms, students have been involved in various stages to be selected and represent the school at different competitions.

We initially started with our traditional Interhouse Cross Country events in PE lessons, where students competed with enthusiasm and great team spirit. From these races, our strongest runners were selected to represent Bourne Academy at the South Lincolnshire Schools Championships.

This team of enthusiastic runners travelled to the Princess Royal Sports Arena in Boston to compete against athletes from 12 local schools from across South Lincolnshire. The standard was extremely high, with only the top 20 finishers in each race qualifying for the Lincolnshire County Championships. We were delighted that nine students qualified as this was a real credit to the commitment shown in training and PE lessons.

Those students then progressed to the County Championships held at Burghley Park, where they raced against the very best runners in the county on a challenging and scenic course. Finlay Smith and Emmylou Preston were successful in their races and qualified to represent Lincolnshire at the Anglian Championships.

Mr Duggan, Head of PE said “It has been brilliant to see so many students challenging themselves and supporting each other from PE lessons to the competitions. At each stage, they have demonstrated a fantastic display of determination, resilience and school pride. Well done to Emmylou Preston and Finlay Smith for reaching the Anglian Championships. This was a particularly demanding course with tough terrain and testing conditions, and both students showed great character and resilience in representing Bourne Academy at such a high level.”
