First place for Alexa in Young Writers Competition
The creative writing skills at Bourne Academy was once again officially recognised when Alexa Thompson in Year 8 won first place in a Young Writers Competition for her short poem on the theme of ‘Book an Adventure’.
The competition was organised by The Cedars Care Home in Bourne, which is run by Barchester Healthcare who are one of the UK’s largest care providers. It gave great pleasure for the residents to read and judge all of the entries and choose an overall winner.
The winning entry from Alexa caputured the competition brief perfectly as well as featuring impressive prose and composition. Alexa’s entry was chosen out from all entries by 11 to 16 year olds in Bourne that included Bourne Academy, Bourne Grammar School and students who attend other local schools.
Alexa was presented with a £20 book token for Bourne Bookshop and a certificate from care home resident Burt Robinson who enjoyed returning back to Bourne Academy where he took a community art course himself and where his grandchildren were also students.
