A perfect start by netball and football teams in the SLAT Tournament

The SLAT Sports Games has returned for its third year and first up to help Bourne Academy retain their trophy for a second year running was our Year 10 girls netball and boys football teams.
The tournament features all four schools in the Trust and is held at Spalding Academy as this is a central location for all schools in the Trust to visit.
Bourne Academy had the perfect start to the tournament with both the Year 10 netball team and the Year 10 football team winning their leagues.
It was three wins out of three for the invincible netball team who dominated all three games. In the first game against Giles Academy, our shooters were on target and there was excellent mid-court attacking play as we won 10-2. The match against Spalding Academy was closely contested, but outstanding play in defence enabled the team to move the ball quickly into attack to result in a 5-2 win. The final game against Cowley Academy was highly competitive where the whole team played their part to give us a 4-1 victory. All of the team contributed equally and a special mention goes to Hettie Baker for her sterling work in playing both Goal Defence and Goal Attack positions.

The matches for the football team were extremely close and they were undefeated in their three games with two wins and a draw. It took a penalty against Giles Academy to break the deadlock and our defence had to hold on to secure a 1-0. Against Spalding Academy, our goalkeeper made several crucial saves to keep us in the match which ended 0-0. Going into the final match against Cowley Academy, we knew a victory was needed to win the group and we demonstrated skill, determination and teamwork to win 2-1 and top the league. The team can be very proud of how they had to battle and pull together in each match to get the perfect start to the SLAT Tournament.
