Sports Day spectacular brings out the best in athletes

One of the highlights of the academic year is the Bourne Academy Sports Day which took place on Wednesday 19th June 2024 and we treated to perfect conditions for students to compete.

This sporting spectacular was held at the Princess Royal Sports Arena in Boston, which is a purpose-built athletics stadium with a large spectator grandstand so everyone could watch and support their House when not competing themselves.

Over 300 students competed in a range of events such as the 100m, 200m, 3/400m, 800m, 1,500m, Javelin, Shot Put, Discus, High Jump and Long Jump. The highlight of the day was the 4 x 100m relay with teams for Years 7 to 10.

The competition amongst the Galileo, Hereward, Keller, Mays, Turner and Warwick Houses was good spirited with tremendous enthusiasm. Everyone put in their best performances as they were supported throughout the day by their respective Houses.

Special mentions go to Finlay Smith in Year 8 who broke two school records plus Stanley Millar in Year 7, Rebecca Palmer in Year 8 and Jodie Walton in Year 10 with outstanding performances.

Finlay Smith set a new sports day record by clearing an incredible 1.62 meters in the High Jump. Demonstrating his versatility and endurance, Finlay also shattered the sports day record for the 1,500 meters as he stormed in a 4 minutes and 54 seconds. These performances are a testament to his exceptional athletic ability and determination.

Rebecca Palmer won the Edward Pearce Cup for best track performance in Year 7 and 8 with victories in the girls 100m, 800m, and 3000m. Rebecca also won triple jump and javelin in the field events.

Stanley Millar won the Eric Burton Cup for best track performance in Year 7 and 8 with success in the boys 100m, 800m and 300m.

Jodie Walton came first in the girls 3,000m, 1,500m, 200m, High Jump, Discus and second place in the 4 x 100m relay earning her the Glover Memorial Cup for best sports day performance.

Thank you to everyone in the PE department, the Heads of House and all of the staff volunteers who made this such a fantastic event.

The overall results for the Houses are below and congratulations to Keller House.
