Kin-Ball tournament provides great experience for Sports Leaders

One of the many partners our PE and Sports department team up with is ‘Lincolnshire School Games’ who work with schools to increase competition, participation and leadership for young people to take part in sport.

As our school benefits from excellent sporting facilities, we regularly host events at the school and welcome children from local primary schools. This also provides useful coaching experience for our Year 10 Sports Leader students to act as managers, coaches and officials.

At the end of last term, Bourne Academy in association with Lincolnshire School Games hosted an annual Kin-Ball tournament that showcased this thrilling and unique sport for Years 5 & 6 students in five local primary schools.

Kin-Ball is a relatively new sport originated from Canada where three teams of four players compete against each other at the same time to try and keep a giant lightweight ball (measuring 1.2 metres) off the floor! The objective of the game is to score the most amount of points by not letting the ball touch the ground.

Our Year 10 Sports Leaders assisting with this tournament with the rules, coaching, umpiring, scoring and organisation. This experience will help them greatly with their Sports Leaders programme. Our students all showed great enthusiasm to learn the game and help all the primary students have a fantastic day.
