Our catering staff are behind the success of the canteen
We recognise the importance of providing healthy, quality and affordable meals to our students. To ensure this high standard, rather than outsourcing to external contractors we operate an in-house catering department with all meals freshly prepared on the premises.
The success of our canteen is down to our amazing team of six catering staff led by David Lane, Catering Manager who support the food preparation, counter service and cleaning for breakfast, morning break and lunchtimes.
Everyone in the team is used to working in a fast-paced environment as the main kitchen produces 300-400 meals at lunchtimes to serve from the canteen and other catering outlets in the school. No day is the same as there is different menu that rotates on an eight-week cycle and the service is efficient as the canteen operates a cashless card system.
Chloe Cooper (pictured above) has been working as a Catering Assistant for one year and is actually a former student at Bourne Academy said “The job appealed to me as I have a child in primary school so the hours are perfect to fit in the school day plus I get the school holidays off. Before starting, I had some experience working in a local hotel so knew I enjoyed working in a kitchen and the support and training given has really developed my catering skills. It has been eye-opening to see how many meals are produced from scratch and that we use fresh ingredients, which is so important to encourage healthy eating. At home, I’ve now become more experimental in the kitchen and make more meals than ever before as I’ve developed a genuine passion for food.”
We have a vacancy for another Catering Assistant to join Chloe of the other members of the catering team to start in September 2022.
The hours of work will be approximately 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 10.30am to 2.30pm (plus there are opportunities to work additional hours) and you will work 39 weeks during the year as the canteen is open during term-time only.
