Year 9 Football and Netball teams are runners-up in Trust tournament

Both of our Year 9 Football and Netball teams were in action for a SLAT sports tournament where they played in three friendly games against the other schools in our Trust, which included Spalding Academy, Cowley Academy and Giles Academy.

Despite it being a wet evening after-school, the teams didn’t let the poor weather deter them putting in strong performances with both of our Football and Netball teams finishing as runners-up in the competition.

It was a phenomenal start to the tournament by the Year 9 Football Team when Charlie Fitzgerald scored after just 18 seconds against Giles Academy with some great work by Jack Sutton who also added a hattrick with the final score 5-1. Our next game against Spalding was a tougher test as we could only test their goal from a distance and lost this game 2-0. With second place still to play for, in the final game against Cowley Academy their goalkeeper kept them in the game and it was a deflected goal from Jack Sutton that made the final score 1-0. With two wins in the competition, Bourne finished as runners-up and played all games in the right spirit.

Our full squad includes William Atkins, Isaac Batstone, Luke Dodd, Charlie Fitzgerald, Oliver Fowkes, Dominic Fry, William Hammond, Freddie Lees, Zak McPherson, Harry Morris, Jack Sutton, Charlie Taylor and William Tordoff.

Our Year 9 Netball Team played in an extremely close tournament with Bourne, Giles and Spalding all finished tied for first place as all teams achieved 11 points when they all won one game and drew two games. In the first game against Spalding, we were winning until the dying seconds and finished 3-3. Another fiercely contested and tight game against Giles finished 1-1, then in our final game against Cowley we secured vital points by winning 3-1. Bourne finished runners-up and only missed out on goal difference of +2 compared to winners Spalding who had +8.

Congratulations to Sophie Fisher, Amelia Kearns and Mia Ward for being awarded Players Player in each of the matches. Our full squad includes Emily Cooper, Sophie Fisher, Matilda Hay, Amelia Kearns, Fay Medlycott, Isabell Rowson, Anastasija Sorokina, Livvi Turner and Mia Ward.
